Seafoam Motel ~ Go to Nags Head and stay at this motel!! It was built in 1948 (when I was 3 years old!) and is on the National Register of Historic Places. When I called to ask about what types of laundry & cleaning products they use and told the head housekeeper, Kendra, about my fragrance & chemical sensitivity, she immediately said she would take all the linens for our room home to wash them. This is definitely "above and beyond" service! They use a linen service & she wasn't sure what type of laundry products it uses. The linens were clean & fresh with no fragrance. The room had no fragrance & no musty, moldy smell. Everyone was very nice and didn't seem at all put out to have to accommodate my sensitivities. We really liked our room, which had a fridge, stove, microwave, and all the other furnishings you'd expect. The back door opened to the dunes and the resident kitties came visiting. The coffee in the vending area each morning was perfect! We enjoyed walking on the beach morning & evening. The only less-than-perfect thing about this historic motel is their website! Maybe I should offer my assistance.

Anchorage Inn, Ocracoke ~ Like the Sea Foam Motel in Nags Head, the people at the Anchorage Inn made an extra effort to be sure my room wasn't smelly & toxic. I was impressed that the manager (owner?) had noticed a whif of Febreeze in the room that morning & left the door open all day to get rid of it. He said he told staff members to leave it open so they wouldn't think it was open by mistake. I didn't notice any residue when we moved in. We enjoyed watching boats come & go. We were able to walk to several places we wanted to see from the motel - it's very convenient, and also very close to the ferry we took to Cedar Island. The sunsets were nice, too.
