Day 1-Thursday, August 18, 2011: Fly from Charlotte, NC, via Newark, NJ, to Copenhagen, Denmark

Day 2-Friday, August 19, 2011: Arrive Copenhagen, about 7:00 am

Rode train from airport to central station. Walked with very heavy baggage to hotel. Walking tour of center city on our own. Bus tour to Kronborg Castle, also known as the Hamlet Castle (disappointment about not going to the Fredericksborg Castle or the Royal Palace, as advertised). Very late (8:00 pm) checking into hotel because of tour delay. Awake more than 24 hours, but did OK.

Day 3-Saturday, August 20, 2011: Visit Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, and board ship

The Grateful Dead played at the concert hall at Tivoli Gardens in April 1972. A box set of their European tour was released this year.

Day 4-Sunday, August 21, 2011: Oslo, Norway

Separate bus tours of the Vigeland Sculpture Garden, Holmenkollen Ski area, and the Viking Ships Museum. Individual tours of the Fortress. (Don't ask why we didn't go together.) Rain in afternoon.

Day 5-Monday, August 22, 2011: Aarhus, Denmark

Hop On-Hop Off tour on our own. We went to the Den Gamle By open air museum where buildings from all over Denmark have been preserved. We also visited the Aarhus Cathedral - and were the last ones to leave when it closed. The Grateful Dead played at the University in Aarhus in April 1972.

Day 6-Tuesday, August 23, 2011: Warnemunde & Berlin, Germany

Train ride to Berlin (3 hours each way) and bus tour of the city, including the Wall, Brandenburg Gate, Check Point Charlie, and the Allied Museum. Lunch at the Hilton.

Day 7-Wednesday, August 24, 2011: At Sea ~ photos on board

Day 8-Thursday, August 25, 2011: Tallin, Estonia

Tour Toompea Hill, Alexander Nevsky Church, and Panoramic Drive. Click on photo of musician for better view of his instrument.

Day 9-Friday, August 26, 2011: St. Petersburg, Russia

Tour of Catherine Castle and City Drive. Lunch at Music Bar restaurant (don't know its Russian name), not far from the Catherine Castle.

Day 10-Saturday, August 27, 2011: St. Petersburg, Russia

Tour of Hermitage Museum in the morning and River & Canal Boat Tour in the afternoon

Day 11-Sunday, August 28, 2011: Helsinki, Finland

Sibelius Park, Temppeliakio Church, and City Drive

Day 12-Monday, August 29, 2011: Stockholm, Sweden

Arriving Stockholm

Tour of Royal Palace and Gamla Stan

Leaving Stockholm and travelling through the Stockholm Archipelago

Day 13-Tuesday, August 30: At Sea

Day 14-Wednesday,August 31: Copenhagen and Return to USA. Washington Dullas Airport was only bad airport experience. Arrive Charlotte about 6:00 pm. Awake 24 hours ~ we were not too lively that night!

Day 15-Thursday, September 1: Return home. No pictures!
